Residential remodel and extension
Location: Chew Valley
The aim of this project was to transform an existing 4-bedroom property into a modern family home. The project comprises a single storey side extension along with internal refurbishment.
The side extension provides an open plan kitchen, dining and living space. This room benefits from a fully glazed gable end which opens to the most spectacular view of the countryside, enticing you out into the garden and the landscape beyond. The design maximises natural daylight with roof lights above the kitchen area which floods light into the deeper parts of the space.
The clients love their new home, their favourite part is the sense of space the vaulted ceiling provides in the new extension. To observe the countryside from the light filled family room provides a multi functioning space that has transformed this property.
"It’s a joy to enter the kitchen every morning, observe the view and think wow, I really live here!"

Residential remodel and extension
Location: Chew Valley
Kate was commissioned to conduct a full feasibility review of the ground floor space of the existing dwelling. The aim was to make this already large house have more cohesion between each of the spaces and building elements.
The design introduced a new timber clad contemporary extension to contrast the existing house and create a better connection to the garden. The remaindered of the floor plate was rationalised, the layout was reconfigured in order to give a sense of open plan living and create views through the whole house.
The internal space-flow works well as the majority of rooms can be accessed from the enlarged, open plan entrance hall.
In the centre of the home is the new open plan kitchen, dining and living space that is full of natural daylight utilised from multiple facades. This space is accessible to and from the rear garden.
Residential extension
Location: Chew Valley
A compact extension that created a place for a dining table, window seat and a wall of storage within an existing kitchen. This project set out to reconfigure and extend the ground floor of this house, creating a more functional space tailored to modern family life.
The relocation of the utility room allowed for the proposal to bring sunlight and views of the garden into the existing kitchen. The alternations created a light and generous family space so that everyone could be together while meals are cooked, and homework needs to be done.
